The great hot breakfast crisis of 2009

Rachel makes cream of wheat with water. Dad always made it with milk.

I don't know if I can handle this.

(Rachel has never tried grits, but I trust that when she does she will agree that they are nasty.)

I just figured out this week that my cream of wheat tasted odd because I hadn't been adding milk.

I had some of it on Monday and thought it tasted worse than I remembered. I tried it again on Tuesday and added milk that time. Problem solved

Grits are good when you mix them with butter and the runny yolks from fried eggs. In other words, cover up the taste and don't eat them straight. Yuck!

I DO like a little milk added after the C of W is cooked. Just never occurred to me to cook it in milk.
