When you have dreams about having Harry Potter-esque powers (only cooler, since they are actually more derived from inFamous), and your spellbook is ~/spells, and the spells are things like /usr/local/bin/force-majeure.
I was a total badass, too.
Then I woke up.
(Normally I don't remember my dreams, but for a CS major this was a pretty cool one.)

This reminds me of the Wizardry series of books from Rick Cook (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Cook especially the links to the Baen Free library, the first two are available free online). The hero is a computer programmer that is brought by magic into a magical realm and he learns magic and actually writes a compiler for magical routines. Quite entertaining. Not exactly high fiction, but entertaining none-the-less.
