We set off this morning for Sweetberry Farm and their hay rides, an hour away. (But an hour and a half, the way we took on the way there.)
Twenty minutes from our destination, Melissa announced that she couldn't hold her pee any longer. We pointed out that pit stops work better if you can give a little notice before Full Emergency -- we'd just driven through a town, but now we were back in the middle of Texas nowhere until we got to the farm -- but there was nothing for it but to pull over and pee by the side of the road. We did a little better than that -- a "picnic stop" had a bush, but no port-a-potty. The bush was adequate.
Five minutes later, Matthew spoke up: "My tummy doesn't feel good." I pulled over again. "Are you going to puke?" "No. But it doesn't feel good." "Okay: put down the book. Close the laptop. Look straight ahead, and you'll be fine." I start the car again. We haven't gone a hundred feet when the car fills with the smell of puke. Rachel cleans off Matthew and I wipe down the laptop. The computer actually caught a lot, which I guess is good since it's hard plastic, but he got some on the upholstery too.
Rachel and I laughed. What else could we do? Isaac and Melissa were glad to have a chance to stretch their legs while we cleaned up.
Matthew was nicknamed "Peanut" by his mother shortly after birth. How shortly, we're not really sure anymore; within the first few sleep-deprived days is all we remember. Matthew never did go through that period of sleeping all the time that baby books tell you newborns are supposed to have. Since his first abnormally alert days he's just become more and more active, and at some point his uncle Grant conferred upon him the moniker Savage.

See this noodle?
I just pulled it out of Isaac's nose. Seriously. I thought it was a booger hanging out, but no, he was stashing some dinner for later.

Potty- kinda gross
Even though we haven't started potty training Isaac yet, Melissa still provides plenty of fodder for the blog...
I was putting Isaac down for his nap when Telitha tapped on the door. "Melissa needs some help, I think she dropped something in the toilet."
No problem, I've dealt with this sort of thing before.
I get to the bathroom, "Mom! I dropped it! The letters just fell into the potty!" Great. I look in and find not only the scrabble tiles, but she's already done her number, and it wasn't #1.
Sigh.
I search the garage for the gloves, no luck. So I get a trash bag to wrap around my hand and I go fishing. After I retrieve and disinfect EVERYTHING I ask how the tiles ended up in the toilet.
"I was spelling my name and they fell in! It just happened."
Naturally.
I found the 'M', 'E', 'L', 'I', 'S', and 'A' so we are missing a letter 'S' from our scrabble set. *FYI, if we ever invite you to play scrabble, I did use copious amounts of bleach. Kids!

Last night at the dinner table, Melissa trumpeted quite loudly for such a small person. "Melissa! Was that you?" "No! It wasn't me! It was just my bottom."

Trial by puke
Rachel is a huge fan of "Totally Toddler" cleaning solution, but I haven't been able to find any in Texas (or online). So I got some "Kids n Pets" at Wal-mart to see if that could fill in.
It did fine on the dirt that someone tracked in yesterday morning. Rachel claims that the stride was larger than a kid's, and she had nothing to do with it. I'm not sure what she's hinting at there. But I asked if this meant Kids n Pets was the real deal, and she said we won't know until we've tested it on blood and vomit and poop and all the other things kids do.
We're moving faster than I anticipated to mark off that list. At 1:00 AM Melissa puked violently all over herself and the carpet. Kids n Pets acquitted itself well. She didn't make it to the bathroom but at least she got out of her bed. Daddy does not like making beds at 1:00.
Melissa claimed to be all better when she got up at 9, but we kept her home from church anyway. (Duh.) She was not pleased about this, but didn't make much of a fuss. If you know Melissa you know that this is unusual for her. But the real proof came later.
Rachel: "It's time for some rest. Let's go to bed now."
Melissa: "Okay."
Okay? Okay?
Wow.
