The Third Child

1st baby: No sugary treats before a year of age and even then only a small taste every once in a while.

2nd baby: Occasional treat before first birthday on special holidays.

3rd baby: Baby pilfers his own treat from the opened pantry in the span of 1 minute. It was in a closed box on a shelf. Mom doesn't have the heart to take away his ill gotten goods. Baby happily demolishes it into a soggy, sticky mess. Happy baby.

Yes that is a green ice cream cone, and yes I let him finish it. He enjoyed it thoroughly.

In which Isaac goes to sleep

Rocking Isaac at 3 am. He's yelling at me so I put him on the floor. Why should I rock you if you're going to yell at me anyway? Sometimes this makes him appreciate being rocked more. Other times it just makes me feel better.

Repeat twice. The second time, he yells harder on the floor, then stops. And goes to sleep. In the dark, I had placed him with his head on the down pillow I brought to use myself, later. (Don't worry, I can hear him breathing.)

I have -never- seen Isaac go to sleep on his own like that at night. Ever. And I will bet money that Rachel has not, either. (Or she would have told me, in awed tones.)

Now, how to reclaim my pillow without waking him...

Chasing the baby

Tonight we played "I'm going to get Isaac!" for the first time. Isaac didn't really get the running (crawling) away part, but he still enjoyed being "caught" and tickled. Baby laughs are fun!

Welcome Jedidiah!

I see your father lost his bid to name you "Iron Stallion Ellis IV." Dodged a bullet there, kiddo. 1 hour of labor, my goodness you were in a hurry to get here!!! You picked fantastic parents too, very good call little one. Your Uncle Jon and Aunt Rachel are sure excited to meet you someday soon.

Congratulations Grant and Lisa! We're so happy for you!

(Jonathan adds: I'm glad that my brother was able to name his son Jedidiah since Rachel didn't let me. Little "Jedi!")

Don't shoot the messenger

Overheard in the car:

"Melissa, when you grow up you're going to have babies. It will hurt. A lot. And you will probably scream a little. You will get a sore bottom. And you will be glad to have your baby."
